ICC: Manchester United vs Real Madrid
Real Madrid was playing against Man UTD while Ronaldo was on a personal pre-season tour in China. The match ended in a draw thanks to Lingard (Manchester) and Casemiro (Real Madrid) goals. Manchester UTD took the win through the penalty attempts.
For Man UTD, the spotlight fell on Anthony Martial. Jose Mourinho, the current manager of Man UTD, felt that the friendly match is a good opportunity for Martial to shape up before the season.
“Obviously we want more consistency in his talent. I think today was positive for him, that’s why I left him on for 90 minutes, he was enjoying trying things and imp in these matches to try things, which he did so I think it’s goes for Anthony and his confidence.”
For him, this match is simply a practice for his team where he does not care for the results. Even Zidane shares in this sentiment when he said he was satisfied with Real Madrid’s performance despite the loss.
Zinedine Zidane, Real Madrid’s coach, said:
“[The penalties] were not so important for me, the most important was that we all competed well today. I am very happy with this game, the first we’ve played [this preseason]. It was a complete game, by all, including the kids who came on in the second half. I am satisfied as we had no injuries. That is the most important. We all competed very well against a team who had played four or five games.”
