Bet365, 2 Other Big Bookies Shortlisted for EGR 2018’s Sports Betting Operator Award

Date Posted: September 25, 2018

The EGR Operator Awards 2018 has already released the nominees for the Sports Betting Operator award. This award will be given to the sportsbook that has excellent products, a wide market reach, and new innovations.

Bet365, The Stars Group, and Sky Betting & Gaming are competing for the title. Which among these three nominees will bring home the award?

Bet365

Established in 2000, Bet365 is a gambling company that offers sports betting, bingo, poker, and casino games. It is based in the United Kingdom and has a license under the Government of Gibraltar. Pinned to its good reputation in the industry is its record of winning the Sports Betting Operator award for five times already – in 2011, 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016.

It offers an In Play feature through which sports bettors can wager on live events through desktop or mobile devices. The site even has a live-streaming service that lets players watch their favorite sports in real time even without making bets.

Just this year, the online bookie had a partnership with Hard Rock Atlantic City Casino as it entered the US sports betting market. Can bet365 beat last year’s Sports Betting Operator winner and take back the title?

 The Stars Group

The Stars Group joins the nominees for Sports Betting Operator award this year. The Stars Group is a Canada-based gambling site that owns various brands including PokerStars and Full Tilt.

Recently, The Stars Group announced a partnership with Resorts Atlantic City. The partnership is aimed at developing a mobile sports betting app under BetStars, the sportsbook of The Stars Group. The company also announced its acquisition of Sky Betting & Gaming (SB&G) last July.

Rafi Ashkenazi, Chief Executive Officer of The Stars Group, said,

“This acquisition represents a pivotal moment in The Stars Group’s evolution. SBG’s mobile-focused sportsbook pairs well with our industry-leading poker offering to create two premier customer acquisition channels. We believe this combination along with our combined online casino offerings positions The Stars Group for continued growth in the evolving online gaming industry.”

The addition of SB&G is a move to widen the market reach of The Stars Group. Now significantly larger in size, can The Stars Group be the Sports Betting Operator of the Year?

Sky Betting & Gaming

Sky Betting & Gaming is a Britain-based gaming company that has five brands: Sky Bet, Sky Bingo, Sky Casino, and Sky Poker. SB&G was last year’s winner of the Sports Betting Operator award even though it was not yet under The Stars Group.

Its brands allow sports enthusiasts to place bets through the telephone, website, or mobile app. Its leading brand, Sky Bet, offers a wide range of sports for bettors to wager on. In addition, it was the first to release a group betting function that lets sports bettors create an accumulator bet.

SB&G increased its total revenue by 30 percent this year because of its new products including the MyBets and Soccer Saturday Super Boost. It also released a horse racing prediction game, ITV7, with ITV, a commercial channel in the UK. With its recent innovations and its acquisition by The Stars Group, SB&G is positive it will once again claim the Sports Betting Operator of the Year award.

All three nominees will join Ladbrokes Coral, LeoVegas, Kindred Group, 10Bet, and William Hill in competing for the title. EGR’s Sports Betting Operator for 2018 will be announced on October 25th at the Grosvenor House in London.
