GWENT Enters Bitcoin Esports Scene Thru UltraPlay
December 21, 2017
UltraPlay has just announced its addition of Witcher 3 GWENT esports tournament betting to its portfolio. This makes UltraPlay the first provider to offer GWENT Masters odds.
GWENT is a card game that originated from the critically acclaimed RPG, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The popularity of the mini-game within the RPG has led to the creation of the free-to-play GWENT: The Witcher Card Game.
Peter Ivanov, head of esports trading of UltraPlay, said:
“Gwent is a perfect choice for a card game that offers endless fun to the players. The eSports betting brands using UltraPlay’s products will be one step ahead of the competition providing another exciting option to their players. We believe that the game holds a great potential to attract many eSports punters with passion and experience in card games.”
UltraPlay Opens GWENT Betting Market

This has solidified the esportsbook provider of its place on the iGaming market. Very few sports betting providers offer GWENT odds or any other competitive games in UltraPlay’s portfolio.
The interest in offering GWENT odds is due to the popularity of the game and that of the esports scene. UltraPlay noted the popularity of the game and people who played it during the GWENT Challenger #2. This event had eight top players from around the world to battle for a $100,000 prize pool.
The company also notes the solid player base of the game when the Witcher 3 came out. There have been more than 500 thousand players who enjoyed the card game since the launch of the closed beta version in 2016. The game is currently in open beta on current gen consoles like PS4 and Xbox One, along with Windows PC. GWENT will come out of beta on 2018 and will include a single player campaign.
GWENT Enters Bitcoin Esports Betting
GWENT is a card game that requires players to build a deck that consists of at least 22 cards. The goal of a match is to get a higher score to win two of three rounds in a game. The score of a single round comes from the cards that are placed in Close Combat, Long Range, and Siege rows. Certain minions or unit cards can only be placed in the three rows.
Much like Hearthstone and Magic the Gathering, Many of GWENT cards have different effects that can change the tide of the game. This includes Weather cards that can hamper certain unit cards or Hero Cards that provide a higher score than normal unit cards. The incredible depth of the card game’s gameplay is what makes GWENT popular enough to create its esports scene.
