High Odds for Federer to Win US Open Despite Injuries
August 29, 2017
US Open 2017 odds favor Roger Federer this season. Despite being 36 years old, Federer took the Grand Slam title in the Australian Open and Wimbledon this year. Meanwhile, following Federer closely is Rafael Nadal. Nadal is a beast during the clay season and has performed outside of anyone’s expectations.
Roger Federer odds
Bitcoin sportsbooks give Federer the best odds for US Open. Both William Hill and Bet365 set him to win the Grand Slam at 2.37 odds.
Having Federer as the favored player is interesting considering his injuries and his career background. Federer has 17 Grand Slam titles before the start of this year. This includes five US Open titles. And before winning two Grand Slam titles this year, his last was the Wimbledon in 2012.
He struggled with back injuries in 2013. His back cost him his world ranking that year which went down from No. 2 to No. 6. Federer’s back continues to be a problem in 2014 where he sustained another injury during the World Tour Finals that season. He had to withdraw from the finals as a result. Year 2016 saw Federer sustained a knee injury in February which caused him to miss the events during that month. He was also forced to miss the Olympics and other events for that year.
With Federer’s injuries and age in mind, it is a surprise for everyone to see him win this year’s Australian Open title. Even better, he won his eighth Wimbledon title this year against Marin Čilić. This is likely thanks to his absence during clay season when he focused on recovering from his injuries.
Bitcoin sportsbook platforms see Federer in a different light for the upcoming US Open this season. His victory on hard court against Nadal during the Australian Open 2017 could also be the reason why Federer has better odds than the Spanish player.
Rafael Nadal odds
Nadal is a genius on clay and has dominated the clay season. He took home the French Open 2017 title against Stan Wawrinka. Even on the hard court, Bitcoin sportsbooks give Nadal higher odds for the US Open. Bet365 sets him at 3.50 while William Hill has him at 3.75.
Nadal, however, may have had problems with the hard court during this season. This does not mean that he continues to struggle with the surface. It is important to note that Nadal has two US Open titles under his belt.
It is also important to note that Nadal is running at nearly a hundred percent while Federer is still sporting a nagging back problem. If this problem persists at some point in the tournament, Nadal and even Any Murray are there to pick up the pace.
