NBA 2K eLeague: 17 NBA Esports Teams to Ready Next Year

May 10, 2017

There are now 17 confirmed NBA teams that will participate in next year’s NBA 2K eLeague. The teams will draft their own professional 2K players who will participate in the said esports league.

The NBA 2K series is one of the biggest sports gaming franchises today. This is the reason it makes sense to build an esports league out of the best-selling basketball simulator on PC and consoles. This will also pave the way for the NBA and Bitcoin to have closer ties as Bitcoin sportsbook will look to have the NBA 2K eLeague onboard.

NBA 2K eLeague

The 17 NBA teams that have confirmed its participation to the NBA 2K eLeague include the Washington Wizards, Portland Trailblazers, Utah Jazz, and Orlando Magic. Also joining the league are the Toronto Raptors, Boston Celtics, Dallas Mavericks, and Cleveland Cavaliers.

Moreover, fans of the Indiana Pacers, Miami Heat, and Milwaukee Bucks will soon have a new reason to cheer for their favorite NBA teams. Next year’s NBA 2K eLeague will also see the Sacramento Kings, Detroit Pistons, and Golden State Warriors, along with the Memphis Grizzlies, New York Nicks, and Philadelphia 76ers in action.

Participating NBA franchises will be drafting five players for the 2K eLeague, and the drafting process will be the same as how the franchise drafts its professional basketball players. The chosen pro players will go through frequent training and will receive a regular salary. In short, eLeague players will get the same treatment as the professional basketball players of the franchise.

As a matter of fact, the NBA 2K eLeague will run similarly to a regular NBA season. The eLeague will run for five months like an NBA season, during which teams will participate in the NBA playoffs and championship match.

This is not the first time that the NBA franchise has dabbled into the esports scene. Two NBA franchises have its eLeague team, and even Shaquille O’Neal, an NBA Hall of Famer, is a co-owner of the NRG esports team.

Details for the 2K eLeague are still in the works. This includes the schedule of the matches and the salary for each player. Regardless, the NBA organization is hopeful that the other franchises will participate next year.

Popularity of NBA 2K franchise

The NBA 2K series is one of the largest video gaming franchise, with more than 17 million copies sold across the globe. The first NBA 2K game was released on the Sega Dreamcast in 1999. The original NBA 2K features next generation graphics and smoother gameplay. Overtime, the new NBA 2K series made the most out of a console’s hardware to give its games the highest visual performance possible without compromising the frame rate of the game. Modern 2K games look almost like a broadcast of an actual NBA game due to the addition of real-world physics.

The popularity of the series is also due to the robust career mode. This mode allows a player to simulate a basketball player’s career throughout a season. It even provides a storyline and game stats to a basketball player.

The NBA 2K franchise is a good fit for the eLeague scene. Bitcoin sportsbook sites such as Pinnacle and Nitrogen Sports are sure to include odds for next year’s NBA 2K tournament matches.
