October 18, 2017
The final round for Heroes of the Storm Global Championship 2017 will go live on Oct. 26, the day which also marks the start of BlizzCon 2017. Sixteen of the best Heroes of the Storm teams across the globe will compete for the $1 million prize pool.
Heroes of the Storm is Blizzard’s take on the MOBA genre that was made popular by games such as Dota 2 and League of Legends. What makes this game stand out is its use of playable characters, maps, and other references from Blizzard’s games. These games include Warcraft, Overwatch, StarCraft, and Diablo.
Bitcoin sportsbook platforms put the favored spotlight on Fnatic while MVP Black and L5 are two other favored teams to win HGC Finals 2017.
Fnatic expected to be victorious
These sportsbook odds are based on the world standing of the teams. Fnatic is leading in the top spot where they are the world’s and Europe’s 1st ranked team with a rating of 1,521.
Fnatic HOTS team was formed in 2014. Their first Major tournament victory was in DreamHack All-Stars – Winter Clash 2015 wherein they won 3:1 against Team Liquid. Fnatic is one of the few teams to reach the finals of the Global Championship last year. They finished 2nd with 1:3 against Ballistix.
Fnatic’s key to their success is to keep the same roster for more than a year. This allows for a natural synergy and stability between its members.
Other contenders for the title
The second favored team to win is MVP Black from South Korea. MVP was primarily a Starcraft II team that has diverged into the MOBA scene by expanding its roster to League of Legends and DOTA 2. MVP Black is the team’s Heroes of the Storm team.
MVP Black is the 2nd world ranking and the 1st ranking team from Korea with a rating of 1,468. The team was created in 2015 when it won two premier events. These are the MSI Masters Gaming Arena and World Cyber Arena.
MVP Black managed to reach the Global Championship last year as well. However, the team finished 3rd-4th place with 1:3 against Fnatic.
Meanwhile, the third favored team for HGC Finals 2017 is the 3rd world ranking team, L5 or Ballistix. The team is also the 2nd ranking Korean team.
L5 or Ballistix was founded in in October last year. Its most notable achievement is winning the Global Championship against Fnatic.
Given L5’s records, the team should have been the top favored team to win this year’s Global Championship. However, near the end of January this year, Ballistix dropped its roster. L5 players recently joined this year. None of them were part of the team who won the Championship last year.
