Odds: Man City Will Top Champions League 2018 Quarterfinals

Date Posted: March 16, 2018

After a rousing Round of 16 draw, only eight clubs will move on to the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals, with the draw taking place on March 16. Which clubs are favored to win the Champions League 2018 quarterfinals?

The outright odds from familiar sportsbooks can answer this question once more. Here are four favored clubs that are likely to make it to the finals.

Champions League 2018 Quarterfinals
1| Manchester City

City is still the top pick to reach the finals and win the Champions League. NetBet and BetRally gave it 4.00 odds to win the Cup.

The club’s massive 4-0 win against FC Basel during the first leg nearly guaranteed City’s spot in the quarterfinals. But the Swiss powerhouses received a wake-up call in the second match with a shocking 2-1 defeat against Basel.

None of City’s key players like Sergio Aguero and Kevin De Bryune were present during that match. The team even lowered its guard during the eighth minute mark after Gabriel Jesus scored. This opened the door for Basel’s Mohamed Elyounoussi and Michael Lang to get two points in.

Despite City’s loss, its solid 5-2 score landed the club a ticket to the quarterfinals. Basel’s victory likely prevented sportsbooks from giving City better outright odds than before.

2| Barcelona

The last Round of 16 match showed that Barcelona deserved to be in the finals. Both BetRally and NetBet set Barcelona with 4.75 odds to win. This is an improvement from before when the club settled with 6.00 odds.

After a tie with Chelsea in the first leg, Barcelona was merciless in the second leg with a 3-0 win. Even Antonio Conte of Chelsea said their defeat was unfair. Messi achieved his fastest goal throughout his career in this match in which Barcelona was leading in less than three minutes. He scored again in the second half, and Ousmane Dembele chipped in to bring the club’s score to three.

The Chelsea match showed how well-rounded Barcelona’s players are this season even without Neymar. This club will be a threat to the favored City throughout the playoffs.

3| Real Madrid

With an aggressive 5-2 win, Real Madrid took the third favored spot among sportsbooks to reach the finals. NetBet and BetRally set the club with 5.00 odds to win the Champions League. Real’s previous outright odds were 6.50.

Cristiano Ronaldo continued to showcase his talents in the second leg with his trademark header. Although Edinson Cavani gave Paris Saint-Germain an equalizing score, Casemiro crushed any hope for Unai Emery to see his team in the Champions League playoffs with a goal.

PSG’s weakness in conceding goals and Neymar’s absence in the second round were significant factors behind Real’s win. Despite this, the defending champions have a shot at reaching the finals and bringing home the title once more because of Ronaldo and Zinedine Zidane’s men.

4| Bayern Munchen

Bayern Munchen’s performance this season makes the club worthy to see in the finals for many sportsbooks. Bayern got 5.50 odds to win from both NetBet and Betrally.

With an aggregated win of 8-1, Bayern eased into the quarterfinals and successfully protected its winning streak this season. Thomas Müller was the man of the hour for giving Thiago the chance to net the first goal of the second leg match against Besiktas. There was also Sandro Wagner who had completed a better cross than Robert Lewandowski during the match.

Despite Bayern’s win against Besiktas, the second leg looked like an easy match for the German club. There were noticeable deficits in Besiktas defenses from which its players consistently got yellow cards. Another is Gökhan Gönül’s costly mistake of giving Bayern a goal by sending the ball to his team’s net.

Bayern’s performance throughout the season showed that Jupp Heynckes’ men can grab a spot in the finals. The Germans even looked competent enough to beat City or Barcelona this season.
