Odds: Muguruza & Konta Will Reach Wimbledon Finals
Date Posted: July 12, 2017
The semifinals of the Wimbledon women’s singles will take place on Thursday, July 13. The latest Wimbledon 2017 women’s singles odds have Garbine Muguruza favored to win the tournament with Johanna Konta following second.
The women’s single is currently the wild west of tennis since Serena Williams stepped out where it is anyone’s game for the coming semifinals and finals. It is difficult to pinpoint which of the four will take home this year’s title which makes the women’s singles more exciting than before.
Garbine Muguruza vs Magdalena Rybarikova
Bitcoin sportsbook Bet365 placed Muguruza in the favored side with 1.40 odds while Rybarikova with 3.00. William Hill also gives both players the same odds.
This semifinals match is one fine example of how unpredictable the women’s singles have been. Rybarikova is the No. 87 world ranking singles player and her highest rank was No. 31 in 2013. Historically, Magdalena never got to the semifinals before where she only reached the third round in previous years. She even came out of surgery to fix her wrist and knee earlier this year.
Despite the odds, Rybarikova is in the semifinals against Muguruza. The unseeded Slovakian won over Coco Vandeweghe in the quarter finals with 6-3, 6-3. This makes Wimbledon her 17th straight major tournament to reach the final four.
Rybarikova, however, will not have an easy time against the 14th ranked Spaniard player. Muguruza has quite a reputation for defeating Serena Williams and Caroline Wozniacki in 2014. Garbine delivered when she won against Kuznetsova in the quarterfinals with 6-3, 6-4.
With the prices for this match, Rybarikova offers a better value for this match than Muguruza. With the performance of the two, Rybarikova might make another miracle happen by beating another top ranking player than her.
Venus Williams vs Johanna Konta
Bet365 places Johanna Konta in the favorable spot with 1.80 odds. However, the gap between her and Venus Williams is very small where Williams is at 2.00. William Hill has a slightly wide gap between the two where Konta is at 1.73 and Williams is at 2.10.
Venus Williams won against Jelena Ostapenko with 6-3, 7-5. Williams answered back Ostapenko’s powerful forehand with experience and control. Despite being the seven-time Wimbledon champion, bookies are slightly leaning toward Konta for this match. This can be due to William’s Sjogren’s syndrome which makes her susceptible to fatigue and joint pains.
One of the largest obstacles to another of William’s Wimbledon Victory is Konta. The 6th ranking player won against the No. 2 ranking player, Simona Halep. The two have a history where Williams won against Konta on a hardcourt surface and then Williams lost against Konta on a clay surface. Wimbledon will be the first time the two will be playing against grass.
As far as the market goes, this match could go either way. Bettors can look for a better price in a Bitcoin sportsbook at the last day.
