Top 5 Candidates Predicted to Win Miss Universe 2018

Date Posted: December 14, 2018

The 67th Miss Universe will be crowned on December 17, Monday at 7:00 a.m. local time in Bangkok, Thailand. The pageant will be held at the IMPACT Arena in Muang Thong Thani, Thailand.

The Preliminary Competition was held last December 13. This gave an opportunity for the world to get a better look at the candidates. Some of the fan favorites that night were Miss Vietnam, Miss Philippines, Miss Kyrgyzstan, and Miss Israel.

Competition is heavy this year as 94 contestants representing different countries have registered for the pageant setting an all-time record. With this, punters have a wider betting field to place wagers on. Sportsbooks Bet365 and Skybet have closely similar predictions as to who the next Miss Universe will be.

Here are the top five picks for Miss Universe 2018:

1 | Miss South Africa – Tamaryn Green

Bet365: +350 | SkyBet: +300

24-year-old Tamaryn Green is a doctor in training as she studies medicine at the University of Cape Town. With pageantry and Miss South Africa commitments for the past year, Green has put her studies to a halt. However, she believes that she can use her medical knowledge “to help South African women understand their strengths.”

Miss South Africa 2018 was Green’s eighth pageant. She has won other competitions including Miss Rochester and Miss New Orleans. Throughout her pageantry, she has carried four values that she thinks every beauty queen should have. She shared:

“Kindness, compassion, humility and staying true to yourself is what every Miss SA should possess.”

At the Preliminary Competition, fans have expressed their love for her as they admire her sashay down the runway in a white gown. Twitter user @francris1031 tweeted:

“Divine in white. 👑 Tamaryn Green looked every inch a Miss Universe during the Miss Universe 2018 Evening Gown Preliminary Competition. All the best, South Africa!”

Green sits at the top of the sportsbooks picks not only for her beauty and grace but also because the previous Miss Universe, Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters, came from South Africa. And sportsbooks are hoping for a back-to-back win.

“Which qualities do you think it will take to wear my crown?”

In which Gray answered:

“I think, first of all, it takes bravery. To be a Miss World is to carry a burning torch. it is like action carried out by one to illuminate the lives of many. What made people notice her recently was her iconic national costume and “fall.” Twitter user @ddematteis shared the video of Miss Puerto Rico’s national costume walk. It had the caption:

“’Puerto Rico rises’ is his typical costume and Miss fell into the 1:30 minute ‘ that level!!!”

Despite her stumble, Ortega held her confidence as she proved her high standing when she walked at the Preliminary Competition. @_J0SHUAA_ is convinced that Puerto Rico will take home the crown as he tweeted:

However, at the same night, Summers gained backlash for her “racist” comments against Miss Cambodia and Miss Vietnam. A video of Miss USA, Miss Colombia, and Miss Australia mocking Miss Cambodia and Miss Vietnam for not speaking English went viral and got disappointing feedback from the public.

@songcancookme posted the video with the caption that expressed her dismay:

“Slow clap for these brainiacs, MISS USA, Colombia&Australia for bullying Miss Cambodia&Vietnam cos they can’t speak english. Lucky! for u Miss USA&Aus cos u were born in an eng. spking country, but Miss Colombia the guts?😄 @MissUniverse no one from these 3 deserves the crown.”

Summers then apologized via an Instagram post saying:

“In a moment where I intended to admire the courage of a few of my sisters, I said something that I now realize can be perceived as not respectful, and I apologize. My life, friendships, and career revolve around me being a compassionate and empathetic woman. I would never intend to hurt another. I am grateful for opportunities to speak with Nat, Miss Cambodia, and H’Hen, Miss Vietnam, directly about this experience. These are the moments that matter most to me.”
