Revenge is a dish best served cold and the Warriors had hearty amounts of it. The Warriors won Game 5 and became the NBA champion this season.
Golden State Warriors has Kevin Durant to thank for carrying his team toward the Championship. The team’s victory has made amends for the Warrior’s lost against LeBron James and the Cavs last year. NBA Finals Game 5 highlights
Game 5 was an incredible match between two NBA titans. The Cavs took Game 5 on their own home court, but the fight was taken to Warrior’s territory.
The first quarter of the match belonged to the Cavalier. Cavs even got the opening tip against Pachulia. Both Durant and Thompson got in trouble with the referees as well. Referees were closely watching everyone like a hawk. Even Kevin Love got to the bench right away because of two quick fouls.
The Cavs’ tight defense is barely giving the Warriors any good shots. Barely anyone from the Golden State could even get inside. The first quarter ended with Cavs getting ahead of the game while Durant, Thompson, and Love are on the bench.
During the early part of the second quarter, the Warriors had a hard time finding their groove to get in some points. LeBron and Kyrie got most of the points in the 2nd quarter. Without Love in the game though, the point factory of the Cavs ran at full capacity.
The Warriors needed something to jump start their own factory. That something came from Durant as he landed a three which put the Warriors in the lead. Everyone in the Warriors’ side began shaping up for a good run that lasted throughout the game. The Cavs was caught napping where both the team’s offense and defense were lacking to answer the Warrior’s renewed fire. By halftime, the Warriors took the lead.
The start of the 3rd quarter saw the Cavs reinvigorated. The Cavs fought for the rebounds and went on full throttle with the offensive regardless of the watchful referees. Durant gave the warriors another spark with a three that put them on a seven-point lead.
With a five-point lead in the 4th quarter, the Warriors kept on delivering the goals thanks to Durant and Curry. Game 5 ended with the Warriors leading 129-120.
As the first player to get more than 30 points for five straight NBA finals, Durant received the MVP title. The last player to achieve this feat was Shaquille O’Neal back in 2000. Steph Curry scored 34 points and provided 10 assists. Not one to be left out of the spotlight, LeBron held a remarkable record of being the first player to average a triple-double for this season. LeBron averaged 33.6 points, 12 rebound, and 10 assists.
